I’m so excited to be launching Mission: Phonics - a small, in-person phonics group in Kettering. Sessions are designed to offer gentle support in a calm, relaxed environment, helping children build confidence and enjoy learning at their own pace. With a maximum of 6 children per group, every child gets plenty of encouragement, support, and space to grow.
Each session starts with a short group phonics input where we introduce and practice sounds, words, or early reading skills together. After that, children move into a range of play-based activities designed to help them explore and apply what they’ve learned in a hands-on way. Activities may include games, crafts, sensory play, reading activities, and independent challenges.

Phonics Adventurers is for children who are secure with their Phase 2 sounds and ready to move on to Phase 3 (see sound mat below). Children in this group are usually able to:

confidently recognise most Phase 2 sounds

blend and read simple words independently

hear and write sounds in simple words

read simple captions or sentences with growing confidence

recognise a range of Phase 2 tricky words

begin reading and spelling with more independence

Day: Friday
Time: 1pm
Duration: 45mins
Phonics Explorers is best suited to children in the initial stages of reading (see sound mat below). Children in this group are learning to:

recognise letter sounds

blend simple words for reading

hear sounds in words for spelling

read simple captions or sentences

recognise and begin to read tricky words

build confidence with early reading and writing skills
